Bill Tandler, Founder and President
Bill's professional experience includes three years at the Hewlett Packard R&D laboratory in Palo Alto, CA, where he helped develop a quadruple mass spectrometer, five years with the laser manufacturer Coherent, Inc. as International Marketing Manager, followed in 1975, by the founding of Multi Metrics, Inc. As President, Bill's activities at Multi Metrics included marketing metrology equipment for Carl Zeiss and other companies, pioneering the contract inspection business, and managing the design and development of several dimensional metrology software systems. These included "Inspector S", the world's first programmable, SPC
based software system for automating mechanical inspection with digital electronic calipers, micrometers, height gages and indicators, and "GEOMET", a 3D geometry processing software system for coordinate measuring machine retrofit. Since 1992, Bill has focused on GD&T research and development, training and consulting. Bill is currently a member of the ASME Y14.5.1 Mathematization Committee; a subject matter expert for Working Group 4 of the ASME Y14.5 Standard focused on Datums, and has been a contributor to ISO TC213 in the realm of Datum Reference Frame construction. Bill is the author of "The Little Encyclopedia™ of GD&T" , "The SmartGD&T™ Pocket Guide" , and many GD&T
course manuals, as well as e-GAD™ Software (electronic GD&T Aided Design) delivering on-demand e-learning/support enabling "encoding" and "decoding" GD&T, to eliminate dependence on "interpretation". Bill is a frequent speaker at international meetings on computer aided tolerancing and coordinate metrology.
Bill has a substantial, hands-on background in manufacturing and inspection technology, and is responsible for creating SmartD&T™ Technology , the unique, rule based system, permitting GD&T to be encoded and decoded, rather than interpreted.
Bill received a Masters degree in Applied Physics and Numerical Mathematics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, Switzerland.
Evan Janeshewski, Certified Smart GD&T Advisor
Evan is a variation management specialist with more than 15 years of experience in engineering, computer-aided manufacturing, quality assurance, and technical training. As a CMM programmer and quality engineer in the aerospace manufacturing industry, he specialized in GD&T inspection using coordinate metrology software applications. In his current consulting practice with Axymetrix Quality Engineering Inc., Evan works with design engineering teams to improve quality through the use of advanced tolerance analysis tools and methods. He is also a part-time faculty member at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), teaching courses in Inspection Methods for Quality Control, Dimensional Metrology, and Statistical Process Control for the past 5 years.
Evan received a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of British Columbia and an Advanced Diploma in CAD Programming from BCIT.
He is also an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and an ASME Y14.5.2 certified Senior Level GD&T Professional.
Mark Brainard, Certified Smart GD&T Advisor
Mark Brainard is a senior Quality Engineer for Team Industries in Minnesota , a leading provider of power-train and chassis components for recreational and industrial off-highway markets, and has been involved in "the management of imperfect geometry' since the late '60s in capacities ranging from machining, to coordinate metrology, to design. Mark is currently responsible for functional gage design, APQP activities, and training/consulting CMM operators at Team Industries among other duties. As the lead internal GD&T trainer, he has trained some 120 people across the six divisions at Team Industries since 2002 using Multi Metrics'; Smart GD&T course materials. In addition to the many hours of stand-up training and study with several of the Y14.5 committee members at various training events, Mark attributes much of his level of success to self study and working through real life problems in a high production manufacturing environment (the "school of hard knocks").
Mark is an ASME Certified Senior Level GD&T Professional, as well as a member of the ASQ, SME, and SAE.
